Equine Surgery
Our board-certified equine surgeons, Dr. Jose Casillas and Dr. Jim Lillich, together bring over 40 years of veterinary experience. The majority of our equine surgeries are performed in our 800-square-foot surgical suite under inhalant, ventilated gas anesthesia while being monitored by a dedicated licensed veterinary technician anesthetist. Our surgeons are supported by a team of surgery techs and assistants utilizing top-of-the-line equipment and surgical supplies. Their expertise combined with the support of our strong team of anesthetists puts our surgery department above the rest.
Their areas of expertise include but are not limited to:
Soft Tissue: Colic, Hernia Repairs, Cryptorchid castrations, Airway Procedures, Wound Management and reconstructive surgery, Mass removals, Tendon and ligament procedures, Neurectomies, and Ophthalmic procedures.
Orthopedic: Arthroscopy, Splint bone Fractures, Kissing Spine, Angular Limb Correction, and Sequestrum debridement.
As well as: Procedures for hooves & feet and Sinus & dental operations.
Sports Medicine for Horses
Our founding service, equine sports medicine, is still a key part of what we do. We provide state-of-the-art care for horses at our equine hospital and through ambulatory calls across central and western Washington. With the skills of Dr. Joseph Bergevin, Dr. Jim Lillich, and Dr. Jose Casillas, our patients perform to the top of their skill set and recover quickly from injuries.
Our areas of expertise include but are not limited to:
Equine Exams: Lameness, Soundness, and Pre-Purchase
Diagnostics: digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy
Treatments: Regenerative Medicine (Pro Stride, PRP, IRAP), Shockwave, joint and bursa injections
Horse Reproductive Management
Our reproductive team works all hours to manage mares and stallions, maximizing success rates. Dr. Maria Lopez, our Equine Reproduction Service Manager, and Veterinary Assistant Anndie Lund bring extensive horse breeding knowledge while focusing on individual client goals.
Mare services: Pregnancy checks, equine breeding soundness exams, artificial insemination with fresh, cooled, and frozen semen, problem mare management, embryo transfers, transvaginal oocyte aspirations for ICSI (currently offering limited appointments).
Stallion services: Phantom training, semen analysis, collections for fresh, cooled, and frozen semen, test freezing, breeding soundness exams, and epididymal harvesting.
Advanced reproduction: Uterine infection diagnoses and treatment, problem mare management, embryo flush, and transfers.

Equine Ambulatory Service
All our veterinarians and their teams are available for appointments at our equine hospital and on the road via our equine ambulatory. Many of our horse vets travel to western Washington, with appointments available Monday through Friday. Occasionally, we also have appointment days in Wenatchee and Kennewick. Services at these locations range from preventative care, such as vaccines and routine dental procedures, to advanced lameness and endoscopic procedures. These days book up quickly, so it is wise to call the office and schedule an appointment soon.
